This food tour in Amman Jordan, was hands-down the best we’ve ever taken. We’ve been to 50 + countries, maybe 60, and food tours are one of our favourite things to do. Learning about each country is at the top of our list of things we enjoy about travel, as a worldschooling family. Getting to know the local food, markets, and where the locals eat is possibly the best way to do that. Here are some words and photos on food in Jordan, and why food tours should be on your itinerary, through this Amman Jordan food tour.

The Best Food Tour in Amman, Jordan
We were in Jordan for 10 days, most of that time in Amman, other than the night we spent at Wadi Rum. This food tour really helped us get our bearings and figure out what, and where, we should be eating, fast.
Through our guide’s help, we found great restaurants that we used every day of our holiday when we were in the city and not out exploring more of Jordan.
It was an amazing trip, I wrote an overview of it, travel blog style, here.
Before we get into the details, I’ll tell you that this food tour is run by a friend of mine, a fellow travel blogger and single mum. Her partner was Jordanian; he tragically died a few years ago, and she and the wonderful lady guide, Jumana, are now running the business. We were gifted this tour as friends, and this is our affiliate link to book.
Should you book this tour, you’ll be helping female-led independent businesses. Like our travel blog. Humans, not AI or big corporations. Thanks.
We stayed at The Sydney Hotel in Amman, and we can give it a great recommendation. It’s perfect if you don’t want to spend too much and keep your accommodation budget, but comfortable. It’s also on Agoda, here.
Amman Food Tour, Market Tour

We had already visited the market in Amman in the morning, we had taken a “free” Amman walking tour. It turned out to not be free, we were hassled for tips. So maybe pay up-front for one like this instead. It was great to visit again with Jumana.
The market is vast and fascinating, selling everything you can imagine, but particularly nuts, fruits, snack and spices. You need a guide if all of these things are new to you.
I know that people sometimes like to look for a combined city tour and food tour, I don’t think this would be a good idea in Amman because there is so much to see and experience.
Amman Food Tour, Dishes To Try
We were able to sample the best foods, in the best places, with an Amman local. She really let experience this incredibly vibrant city and was able to give us some great tips, like where we could find pizza and red wine in a restaurant.
Jordanian food is great, but sometimes you just want pizza!
Here are some of the Jordanian foods we sampled in Amman.
The Best Falafel in Amman
Our tour guide took us to the best falafel shop in Amman, a small street food outlet favoured by royalty.

Mansaf, Jordan’s National Dish
Mansaf is the national dish of Jordan. It is Jordanian lamb, cooked in goat’s milk or yoghurt and served with rice. I probably would never have tried it because that description doesn’t appeal to me, but it’s so good! You must try.
Mansaf is actually UNESCO listed as being of great cultural significance.

The tour took us to the best restaurant to try mansaf. Later, on our way to the Dead Sea, our driver took us to a place to try mansaf, claiming it was the best. He didn’t tell us that this place was a rip off. As we’d already tried the dish, and knew the price, we knew he was a scam artist.
The Best Ice Cream Shop in Amman (& Video)
Jordanians have a sweet tooth. This food tour also took us to the most incredible ice cream shop I’ve ever been to. Just being there with the guys behind the counter, drumming and singing as they produced our ice creams, felt like a party.
There were a lot of ice creameries in Amman, and all of them, that we tried, were excellent.
Kanafeh, a Sweet Treat in Amman
Jordan’s famous sweet dessert, kanafeh, was also on the tour. My kids ate it a lot after Jumanah introduced us to it. Had she not, we probably wouldn’t have known what it was or where to buy it.

More Street Food in Amman
There were more foods that we tried, Jordanian bread with toppings, manakish, fresh juices and corn from a street vendor, bread made fresh in front of us, served with koftas in an amazing sesame yoghurt sauce, and more.
